Sustainability Index Services

Through indices such as those listed below, investors are able to benchmark the performance of their portfolios against a set of sustainability leaders. They can see where they may be falling behind or where they are outperforming. Sustainability indices also allow investors that integrate environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors into their decision process to easily identify companies for investment. Sustainalytics works with its index partners to create and maintain sustainability indices by developing index methodologies, providing data and research and helping connect clients with index providers.

Sustainalytics’ index experience dates back to 2000 and the launch of its own Jantzi Social Index (JSI). Sustainalytics provides services for both thematic and ESG leaders indexes as outlined below.

Jantzi Social Index

Jantzi Social Index
Sustainalytics owns and maintains the JSI, a socially screened, free-float market capitalization-weighted stock index launched in 2000 consisting of 60 Canadian companies that pass a broad set of environmental, social, and governance rating criteria. 

S&P/TSX Clean Technology Index

S&P/TSX Renewable Energy and Clean Technology Index
S&P Dow Jones Indices and TMX Group Inc., operator of Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX), launched a green investing index to track cleantech companies in 2010. Sustainalytics developed the methodology and provides the data and analysis of the constituents needed to maintain the S&P/TSX Renewable Energy and Clean Technology Index.  

STOXX Global ESG Leaders Index

STOXX Global ESG Leaders Index
STOXX Limited partnered with Sustainalytics to launch the Global ESG Leaders Index family, an innovative series of ESG indexes, which are based on sustainability data provided by Sustainalytics.  

SXI Switzerland Sustainability 25 Index

SXI Switzerland Sustainability 25 Index
The SIX Swiss Exchange partnered with STOXX and Sustainalytics in 2014 to create an index comprising the 25 most sustainable companies of the Swiss SMI Expanded Index.

Access to Medicine logo

Access to Medicine Index
The Access to Medicine Foundation selected Sustainalytics as its research partner for the 2014 Access to Medicine Index. Sustainalytics' pharmaceutical sector analysts will work with the Access to Medicine Foundation’s research team to gather, analyze and score company data.

Global Compact 100

Global Compact 100 Index
The United Nations Global Compact partnered with Sustainalytics in 2013 to create this global index whose constituents are a representative set of 100 UN Global Compact signatories that have demonstrated strong practices and performance in implementing the Global Compact principles.
