(TORONTO) – October 18, 2011 – Today, Sustainalytics announced the following changes to the Jantzi Social Index (JSI)® effective as of the opening of markets on October 18, 2011:
Zarlink Semiconductor Inc. was removed from the JSI because the company was acquired by Microsemi Corporation and is no longer listed on the TSX.
According to Sustainalytics’ environmental, social and governance analysis, Cenovus ranks in the top quartile of its peer group, and its social performance is particularly strong. The company has a clear corporate responsibility policy through which it commits, among other things, to meaningful stakeholder engagement, and which explicitly supports the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Cenovus created an Aboriginal Engagement Framework that guides its engagement and consultation with Aboriginal stakeholders in its operating regions, and the company has negotiated benefits-sharing agreements with some Aboriginal communities that address consultation, community investment funding, economic and business development, employment, education and training, and other items specific to each community. Cenovus invests in renewable energy through its Environmental Opportunities Fund, which to date has committed approximately CAD 14 million toward renewable and clean technologies.
