PRI Award Winner ESG Research

Authors of Sustainalytics’ 10 for 2021: Investing in the Circular Food Economy report commended on their novel research and replicable investor applications

November 3, 2021, London - Sustainalytics, a Morningstar company and a leading global provider of ESG research, ratings, and data, was honored with the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) Award for ESG research innovation of the year. An independent panel of judges selected Sustainalytics’ “10 for 2021: Investing in the Circular Food Economy” project from more than 110 entries overall, submitted by PRI signatories based in 25 countries.

Drawing on key components of Sustainalytics’ ESG Risk Ratings, the 10 for 2021 report reveals insights into the environmental and social impacts of the global food value chain for investors looking to implement circular economy investment themes.

PRI’s panel commended this year’s edition of Sustainalytics’ flagship 10 for report series for bringing an innovative and actionable focus to circular economy principles. Deborah Cotton of University of Technology Sydney and PRI judge says, “This project faced head-on a difficult-to-define part of the journey that will be required to reach the outcomes the planet needs.” The judges also noted that authors Martin Vezér, Rita Ferreira, Roxana Dobre, Jessica Grant, Thijs Huurdeman, and Christine Ha Kong clearly articulated the risks and opportunities around the global food chain and delivered a comprehensive investigation into the growth in circular economy funds.

“Sustainalytics is proud to receive this prestigious recognition from PRI for our risk-based and impact research,” said Simon MacMahon, executive vice president of Research products at Sustainalytics. “Investors can consider ideas from 10 for 2021 when constructing ESG strategies as practical examples of how ESG data can be integrated into financial analysis and investment processes, including portfolio construction, engagement, and financing.”
