Sustainalytics Named ESG Data Provider of the Year by Environmental Finance for a Second Consecutive Year

July 7, 2020, London – Sustainalytics, a leading global provider of ESG research, ratings and data, has been honoured for a second consecutive year as  ESG Data Provider of the Year by Environmental Finance, an online news and analysis service reporting on sustainable investment and green finance.

Judged by an independent panel of industry experts, Sustainalytics took the top spot in the ESG Data Provider category for expanding its suite of high-quality ESG research, ratings and data to support the increasing ESG needs of global investors. The firm recently launched its ESG Data and Country Risk Ratings offerings, enabling investors to evaluate companies and countries on a broad spectrum of ESG considerations. Sustainalytics also introduced a Material Risk Engagement service earlier this year.

In Sustainalytics’ awards entry, the firm noted that more of its institutional investor clients were looking for comprehensive data to generate ESG insights. Given this demand, Sustainalytics launched an ESG Data product, enabling investors to combine ESG indicators to reflect their views on ESG issues. Sustainalytics’ ESG Data includes more than 220 ESG indicators and 450 fields, and covers over 12,000 companies. Investors can use Sustainalytics’ ESG Data product for security selection, portfolio construction, risk and scenario analysis, and to meet disclosure requirements.

The firm was also recognized for meeting the growing ESG demands of fixed-income investors by introducing its Country Risk Ratings, which cover 170 countries and are based on more than 40 indicators. The firm’s innovative country ratings help investors to identify and assess the ESG risks facing countries and how these risks might impact their credit analysis.  The ratings combine ESG and economic indicators to provide fixed-income investors with a forward-looking assessment of country risk. Leveraging Sustainalytics’ Country Risk Ratings, fixed income investors can perform more in-depth sovereign credit risk analysis, portfolio analysis and macroeconomic analysis.

In addition to Sustainalytics’ ESG Data and Country Risk Ratings products, the firm has engaged more than 250 high-risk companies through its Material Risk Engagement Service. Sustainalytics’ flagship ESG Risk Ratings serve as an overlay to the engagement service.

“Sustainalytics is honoured to be named ESG Data Provider of the Year by Environmental Finance for a second year running,” said Hans-Ulrich Beck, Sustainalytics’ Executive Vice President, Product Strategy and Development. “With the growth of sustainable investing, the ESG requirements of pension funds and investment managers worldwide is accelerating rapidly. We are proud to be recognized by industry experts for our continued effort and commitment to support investors with comprehensive, high-quality ESG research, ratings and data.”

The Environmental Finance Sustainable Investment Awards seek to recognize asset managers, analysts and data providers incorporating ESG across all asset classes.
